It's good news for businesses and the Greater Lafayette Chamber of Commerce.  An ordinace that would have gotten rid of a two percent rebate that business owners in Lafayette Parish get for remitting their sales taxex on time to local government has now been pulled.

Lafayette City Parish Councilman Jay Castille, one of the co-sponsors of the measure, confirms to KPEL that the item has been removed.

While the council moved the initial plan forward, it was coming up for final adoption by the council next week, and some members of the council were re-thinking their choice.

The Lafayette Chamber of Commerce pointed out this week that all other parishes in the state follow that same rebate schedule.  The rebate on taxes has been in place since the 1960's.
