A Lafayette 16-year-old will spend the rest of his life in prison after pleading guilty in the 2013 shooting death of a Pineville woman.

According to the Acadiana Advocate, Damari Jennings wasn't on a conviction of second-degree murder, but because he is under the age of 18, a hearing will be scheduled to determine whether he should serve the sentence without parole.

Jennings was convicted of killin 51-year-old Connie Burch of Pineville, the Advocate reported. Lafayette police found her body on a sidewalk on Madeline Street in the early morning hours of Aug. 15, 2013.

Jennings was indicted by a grand jury on a charge of first-degree murder, but pleaded to a lesser charge of second-degree murder.
