Forbes Magazine ranks Lafayette number one among mid-size cities for jobs. According to Forbes Magazine, Lafayette's employment growth is up 5% from last year. Economic Development Secretary Stephen Moret says the Hub City is a great success story.

"I think there is no community in Louisiana that is more entrepreneurial than Lafayette. There's no  community in Louisiana, I think, that is more for looking and its planning than Lafayette. They are seeing success with oilfield services activity there as well as some other gross sectors in their entrepreneurial economy."

New Orleans was also recognized on Forbes' list, coming in 13th among large metro areas. Forbes says the New Orleans-Metairie economy area is on the rise following Hurricane Katrina. Moret says they've seen a growth in the number of Fortune 500 companies who are hiring.

"Like GE Capital and Nucor in the metro area as well as the biomedical sector taking off with the multi-billion dollar biomedical district development underway. They've had tremendous growth in the digital media sector."
