Lafayette City-Parish President Joey Durel announced on "Mornings with Ken & Bernie" that Lafayette has won Southern Living's contest for the 'Tastiest Town In The South'.

There were over 500,000 votes cast in the entire contest. Lafayette gained 194,502 votes, beating out Louisville, Kentucky, by 35,496 votes. New Orleans came in a distant third.

City-Parish President Joey Durel was quoted as saying  "I got Facebook (posts) from people from El Paso, TX, Ohio, all over the country, saying, 'I voted for Lafayette today."

The publisher and editor of Southern Living Magazine will be in town tonight for a reception to officially congratulate Lafayette on garnering the most votes in the contest.

The next issue of Southern Living will be available at Barnes & Noble next week.
