This week your brown recycling can from the Recycling Foundation needs to be put out for collection as there will be new carts that will be used starting in the first week of May.

Many customers have already received their new blue 96 gallon can that we be used to collect your recycling. If you have not yet received your cart, it will be delivered soon.

Even if you don’t have anything to be recycled, you are still asked to place your brown recycling container curbside.

Now both your trash and your recycling will be picked on the same day which is your trash day.  This change will begin next week.

All brown carts will be hauled away, and a new blue cart will be replacing it.

Here are three important things about what can and can’t be placed in the new blue recycling bin:

  • Republic Services customers should place glass in the garbage carts. (Recycling glass has become a financial burden in recent years for recycling plants.)
  • Republic Services customers should only place plastics marked No. 1 and No. 2 in the new blue recycling cart. No. 1 and No. 2 plastics include water bottles, soft drink liter bottles, milk jugs and laundry detergent bottles.
  • Paper and paper products are still recycled and should be placed in the new blue recycling bins.

Anyone with questions can call Lafayette Consolidated Government’s Recycling Office at 337-291-5637.
