Lafayette's Fire Department Public Information Officer Alton Trahan says a 5-year-old girl playing with a lighter has led to the closure of S.J. Montgomery Elementary School today.

Investigators say the girl set some toilet paper in the one of the stalls on fire.  She had brought the lighter from home.

The school was evacuated for 30 minutes, and no one was injured in the fire.

The school will be closed today for cleaning and repairs due to fire and smoke damage. Classes will resume Tuesday.

Firefighters say the damage was confined to a restroom in the kindergarten wing.
