THIBODAUX, La. (AP) — The Lafourche Sheriff's Office plans to sell $3 million in bonds to pay for the costs of acquiring a building and updating the communications and training facilities that officials plan to move into the building.

All office functions that do not involve public service will be moved to the 70,000-square-foot building, freeing up deputies at other facilities to focus on helping residents.

Sheriff Craig Webre tells The Daily Comet the agency's main office will remain at the Canal Street site in Thibodaux.

Webre said half of the $3 million will go toward the purchase of the former Thibodaux Coca-Cola building.

The office has also received a $1 million federal grant to update its communications department.
