Wayne Gutgsell was riding his bike on highway 385 near the Lake Charles Regional Airport when he struck a car resulting in his death.

Gutgsell was traveling north when a car pulled out in front of him and he didn’t have time to stop.

That car was driven my Catherine Hodges, who was suspected of being impaired during the time of the crash. She was arrested and taken to the Calcasieu Parish Correctional Center on charges of vehicular homicide, DWI, and failure to yield while turning.

Toxicology samples were taken from both drivers and the crash remains under investigation.

This accident happens to have occurred during motorcycle awareness month and State Troopers want to remind everyone to share the road with cyclists and be aware of them.
