Lakefront Airport To Get $1.2M In Recovery Funds
NEW ORLEANS (AP) — The Federal Emergency Management Agency has approved spending $1.2 million on renovations of the Art Deco Lakefront Airport terminal.
The money will help complete renovations of the historic terminal. U.S. Sen. Mary Landrieu, D-La., says the money is needed to fix unforeseen problems that were discovered during repairs.
The senator said Friday that the money will be used to deal with asbestos and lead-based paint issues and on the fire sprinkler system and wood and terrazzo flooring.
The terminal suffered major damage during Hurricane Katrina.
