Land cost frustrates hospital official

ST. FRANCISVILLE, La. (AP) — The West Feliciana Police Jury has voted to accept for consideration a $1.93 million appraisal for 14.8 acres it wants to sell for a new hospital site.

The Advocate reports (http://bit.ly/NdPfX9 ) a jury committee had recommended March 15 that the jury sell the site at a fair market value to the parish hospital.

Parish Hospital Board Chairman Leonard Sullivan told the jury Tuesday he was shocked by the price, which he called "ridiculously high."

Sullivan said the hospital board would be lucky to have seven acres of usable land at the site on Burnett Road.

Legal adviser Mike Hughes suggested jurors consider other options, including a 99-year lease option.

Jurors agreed, and Sullivan said the Hospital Board meets this week and will present another proposal in writing.
