Laplace Man And New Orleans Woman Plead Guilty In Counterfeit Case

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — The U.S. Attorney's office says a 34-year-old Laplace man and a 26-year-old New Orleans woman have pleaded guilty to conspiracy to pass counterfeit money.

Gregory Richardson and Kennikqua Phillips entered their pleas before U.S. District Judge Jane Triche Milazzo on Thursday.

According to court documents, Richardson recruited Phillips, a Wal-Mart employee, who agreed to accept counterfeit $50 and $100 Federal Reserve Notes at her cash register in exchange for a VISA loadable debit card.

Richardson and Phillips each face a maximum prison term of five years, a fine of up to $250,000.00 and three years of supervised release. Sentencing is set for August 30, 2012.
