Governor Bobby Jindal has signed the bill that would give a larger tax break to parents who pay private school tuition and other school supplies.Tara Cunningham with the Louisiana Department of Revenue says the new law would remove the 50% cap on deductions for education. Cunningham says the the bill by Livonia Sen. Rob Marionneaux, allows the full maximum tax deduction of $5,000 per child for school tuition. She also says according to the bill the tax break is expected to reduce state government revenue by $5.3 million a year.

Cunningham says the change will begin for the 2011 income tax year. She says the deduction applies to uniforms, school supplies and study materials for all primary and secondary school students. She encourages tax payers to save all your receipts.
