Lawmaker Wants To Criminalize Not Reporting A Missing Child

One lawmaker says the Casey Anthony murder trial has given him something to fight for in the upcoming legislative session. Representative Sherman Mack of Livingston Parish has pre-filed a bill that would make failing to report a missing child a crime. He says he feels there needs to be a Louisiana law that states a “caretaker” must report a missing child to proper authorities within 24 hours.

Mack proposes that a person must inform any local authorities within 24 hours if you care for a child under the age of 17 and they become missing.
He says there may be some wording changes in the bill during the session, but he doesn’t expect any opposition.
