UPDATE: Louisiana State Police reported the arrest of two suspects wanted for the shooting of LDWF Agent Tyler Wheeler yesterday.

LSP spokesman State Trooper Michael Reichardt said 31-year-old Amethyst Baird, of Monroe, was charged and booked into the Ouachita Parish Correctional Center with attempted 1st degree murder of a police officer.

State Police also arrested 34-year-old Jeremy Gullette, of Monroe, on one count of accessory after the fact to attempted 1st degree murder for assisting Baird in commission of the shooting.

“I am very proud of the hard work and persistence of investigators to quickly identify and arrest these suspects. We continue to pray for Agent Wheeler as he recovers from this senseless assault.” --said Colonel Mike Edmonson, State Police Superintendent.

A Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries agent is being hospitalized after being shot multiple times while on duty in Morehouse Parish.

According to LDWF, 25-year-old Senior Agent Tyler Wheeler, of Monroe, was shot multiple times at around 2 a.m. Saturday when he performed a traffic stop on Hwy. 165 in between Sterlington and Bastrop.

A fellow LDWF agent found Wheeler and was able to administer some first aid until Wheeler was airlifted to LSU Health Shreveport Trauma Center.

Louisiana State Police have taken over the investigation. Sources say one person is in custody.

Wheeler's father posted on Facebook that his son was shot five times--twice in the arm and one shot each in the jaw. upper shoulder and left temple. He added the agent is responding to commands and questions.

Wheeler, who is married and has one child, has served as an agent with LDWF for two-and-a-half years.
