Members of Haiti's Emergency Response Agency and the Disaster Protection Civil Organization visited St. Martin Parish this week to garner knowledge of disaster preparedness from Acadiana officials.

St. Martin Parish Sheriff's spokesperson Maj. Ginny Higgins told KPEL, the foreign delegation listened to topics ranging from early-warning training, to evacuation procedures to manpower issues that may occur during a natural disaster.

St. Martin Parish Sheriff Ronnie Theriot, and members of his staff, joined District 46 State Rep. Mike Huval, and Village of Parks Mayor Kevin Kately in hosting the Haitian dignitaries at the St. Martin Parish Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness.

The group of Hatian officials toured other agencies throughout the state before stopping in St. Martinville, such as the St. Landry Parish Sheriff's Office and the Governor's Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness.
