Leesville Council Warned About Repeated Audit Findings

LEESVILLE, La. (AP) — Leesville City Council members have been told the city could face penalties if it repeats practices that have come in for criticism in audit reports.

The Lake Charles American Press reports that accountant Burton Kolder, discussed results of Leesville's annual audit at a council meeting last week. He said some of the nine findings are repeats of past practices that need to be changed.

For instance, the city's monthly payments to its safety fund and reserve funds for state bonds were not made in a timely fashion.

Kolder warned that the state has a "three strike rule," meaning that a third repeat of that offense could lead to suspension of state funding.

Despite the concerns, Leesville's budget news remained positive. Kolder reported a surplus of $216,000.
