Today on 'Mornings With Ken and Bernie' Ken and guest host Pat Mould discussed the legalization of marijuana for recreational use in Colorado.  After a number of calls from KPEL NewsJunkies we made contact with a local marijuana user named 'Chance' (not his real name).

We noted from early morning news reports that high grade marijuana was retailing for $500 an ounce and we asked Chance if that seemed reasonable and he said,

The high quality stuff can be pretty expensive...Even in Lafayette you might $350 an ounce for good quality product.  If we decriminalized it and priced it at $500 an ounce as they are doing in Colorado we could pay off the national debt.

When asked if a person had the choice of spending $500 to purchase an ounce of marijuana legally or spending $350 to buy an ounce illegally which would they buy Chance replied,

The difference between buying it legally and illegally is you don't know what you're getting when you get it illegally.  At least when you buy it legally there is some kind of oversight involved...When you buy it on the street you never know what you're getting in it.

Earlier in the morning we spoke to a law enforcement officer who said legalization of marijuana would not reduce incarceration rates because people would continue to buy illegally because of the lower price.  According to Chance,

Well there are stats that say there are more arrests due to marijuana possession than there are to violent crimes lately.
