Republican legislative candidate James David Cain has raised his party's ire and lost its backing by criticizing the governor in a campaign ad.

Cain, a former state senator from southwest Louisiana, is trying to return to his old seat by ousting incumbent John Smith, a Republican from Leesville who won the position after Cain was term-limited four years ago.

After a television ad in which he criticized Republican Gov. Bobby Jindal for endorsing Smith, Cain no longer has his party's backing. Jason Dore, executive director of the Louisiana Republican Party said that it was inappropriate to display the party's endorsement on a TV ad attacking a Republican governor.
