Many members of the LGBT community are terrified of a Trump presidency. President of Equality Louisiana Baylor Boyd says the anti-LGBT statements that came out during the Trump campaign were concerning.

“Their top priorities are to fight and reverse nondiscrimination policy and marriage equality, which sends many people into sheer panic,” Boyd said.

Boyd says some of their members are worried a Trump Administration may overturn marriage equality, or that the military would reinstate “don’t ask, don’t tell.” He says reversing orders like these would set the country back a decade.

“I don’t think anyone understands the horror that the future might be, and it’s upsetting,” Boyd said.

Boyd says Equality Louisiana will continue to fight for LGBT rights. He says they are more grateful than ever for Governor John Bel Edwards.

“We are fortunate in the state of Louisiana to have a wonderful, understanding, open minded governor. We have not been used to that in the past,” Boyd said.
