It's another very large trophy for the Lafayette High School trophy case. This time courtesy of the Lafayette High Chorus Department. This weekend the advanced women's chorus or La Belle Voix was named Overall Champion at the Bluff City Choral Festival in Memphis Tennessee. They also earned the Heart Award for community service.

This festival not only tested the ability of each group to perform but that element of community service went into the overall judging. Director the LHS Choral Department Holly Grefe said,

I really believe it was the effort the kids put into the community service project that really caught the judges attention.

Not only did chorus members perform at a Memphis area nursing home, they also did a program at a Memphis area school where they taught the students about their home state of Louisiana. They sang songs about the state and even play a game of Cajun Bingo. These activities were in addition to the actual choral performance for the judges.

Proud parents greeted the members of the chorus upon their return to Lafayette High School late Sunday afternoon. Many parents were holding pink balloons as a salute to the ladies who made the journey and represented their school, their families and their community so well.
