A final update to this story.

Life in prison without the possibility of parole was the final sentencing handed down to Bryce Perkins this past week.

The Lake Charles man shot and killed Marine Daniel Gueringer, who was at home on leave. The incident occurred at a party back in 2009.

The initial conviction in February 2011, but the judge reduced the charge to manslaughter in April. That sentencing was calling for 30 years in prison.

Prosecutors weren't happy with the sentencing and appealed the charge. The second-degree murder verdict was reinstated in March and the new sentencing handed down last week.

The mother of Gueringer addressed the court during the sentencing and said, "Our family would like to thank our judicial system for bringing about justice today, for the taking of Daniel’s life. Daniel was a very loving son, brother, family member.”
