Lafayette Fire Department officials say a lighting bolt struck two apartments at the Greystone Apartment Homes at 116 Reserve Drive around 4:00 p.m. Wednesday afternoon.

Lafayette Fire Department Spokesperson Alton Trahan says firefighters arrived on the scene to find heavy smoke coming from the exterior of an apartment building. When they opened the exterior wall, they found a small fire burning inside the wall and quickly put it out. Trahan says the fire damage was contained to the exterior of the building; there were light smoke damage to two apartments.

Trahan says one of the neighbors noticed the lightning strike earlier. Fire investigators confirmed the fire was caused by a lightning strike.

Fortunately, no one was injured.
