LIVINGSTON, La. (AP) — Livingston and Ascension parishes are forming a toll road authority in an attempt to get a toll road built between the two parishes.

Livingston Parish President Layton Ricks tells The Advocate the toll road would run between La. Highway 447 in Livingston Parish and Highway 42 in Ascension Parish, crossing the Amite River north of the bridge at Port Vincent.

Ascension Parish President Tony Martinez said the new road and bridge would help alleviate the traffic jams that occur in the morning and afternoon at the bridge in Port Vincent.

Martinez said the toll road authority should be in place by the end of September and could be used later in creating other shared projects for the parishes.
