A new pilot program will be starting soon in Louisiana and six other state to train teachers.

The seven states, which also include Connecticut, Georgia, Idaho, Kentucky, Massachusetts and Washington, will be involved in a two year program with teachers that involves training, colleges, universities and school districts with the goal of helping to improve teacher preparation.

The Network for Transforming Education Preparation was created by the Council of Chief State School Officers.

17 national organizations will support the states' work to bring about change in the way in which teachers are prepared for the classroom.

Because more is asked of teachers and students each year, the group believes teacher would benefit from better training on how to be prepared for classroom teaching.
