As former Higher Education Commissioner Jim Purcell moves on, so is the Louisiana Board of Regents, who are now searching for the 8th Commissioner for Higher Education.

Purcell is now heading to Rhode Island for the same position after deciding not to seek a new contract here in Louisiana. According to the Associated Press, Purcell wanted to leave the job after La. Gov. Bobby Jindal's staff unsuccessfully tried to get him fired last year.

"This individual will serve as the lead coordinator for the state’s four systems of higher education, ultimately to strengthen the educational landscape of our state," says the press release on the Board of Regents website. A Commissioner's Search Committee has been appointed by the Board in the search.
