Louisiana Confirms Another 10 West Nile Cases In The State

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — Another 10 cases of West Nile virus have been confirmed in Louisiana.

The Louisiana Department of Health said Friday that brings the total to 24 cases in the state this year.

Of the latest cases, five are dangerous infections of the brain or other parts of the nervous system and five were flu-like West Nile fever.

There have not been any West Nile-linked deaths in the state this year.

The latest neuro-invasive cases include one each in Caddo, Calcasieu, East Baton Rouge, Franklin and Ouachita parishes. The fever cases are in Iberville, Jefferson Davis, Lincoln, Ouachita and Webster parishes.

State Medical Entomologist Kyle Moppert encouraged residents to protect themselves from mosquitoes by using repellant when outdoors and removing standing water from around their homes.
