The Louisiana Office of Motor Vehicles is not touting that it will fix your smile, or touch up your complexion, but it will be changing the look of Louisiana Drivers' Licenses.

Starting this week, drivers licenses, identification cards and handicap placards will be issued that contain multiple layers of security components, privacy protection and tamper resistance.

“Through the implementation of these new designs, Louisiana citizens will have greater protection from security concerns including fraud and identify theft,” said Motor Vehicle Commissioner Stephen Campbell.  “Our staff is working as quickly as possible to implement these new licenses across the state; however, if you obtain a credential at an office that has not been converted to the new system, your license or ID is still valid.”

Campbell also noted that citizens are not required to obtain new licenses, or identification cards, until the current one expires. There will also be no change of costs associated with the issuing of the new card format.
