Louisiana Gets Taste Of Winter Weather This Week

Another cold snap is coming our way, and state climatologist Barry Keim says it will be the coldest one yet. He says a cold front is moving into the state today, which will drastically cool things off in the Bayou State.

“As the day wears on today, don’t expect the temperatures to increase very much, as that cold air is just going to continue to pour in from the north, and this cold air is going to continue to settle into Louisiana, not only today, but really all the way through the weekend,” Keim said.

Keim says it will get progressively colder every day until Sunday. He says a storm forming in the Gulf will increase the chance for wintery precipitation in north and central Louisiana on Friday.

“There’s at least a fair chance we could see some snow showers across northern parishes, including Shreveport and Monroe, to the tune of about 30%. We also could see some mixed precipitation including sleet across central Louisiana,” Keim said.

Keim says it won’t be cold enough for snow in south Louisiana, which means more rain. He says the entire state should keep an eye on this system because things could change quickly.

“It bears watching and also realize just a couple degrees in the temperature can lead to dramatically different conditions with the precipitation,” Keim said.
