Louisiana's Insurance Commissioner Jim Donelon has been busy touring the state to remind citizens that it is in their best interest to buy a flood policy under the National Insurance Flood Policy Program.

Donelon highlighted for listeners of "Mornings With Ken & Bernie" how many billions of dollars has been spent out of that program on rebuilding homes and businesses in Louisiana.  Donelon says between hurricanes Rita and Katrina in 2005, the program put Louisiana in the number one spot for consumers of the national program.

Donelon reminds listeners that there is a 30 day waiting period for a flood policy to take effect and if a storm enters the Gulf of Mexico insurance sellers will not sell you a policy under the storm has moved through the state.
