The Louisiana House of Representatives voted down a bill 55-38 that would have allowed Louisiana public school students to be surveyed anonymously about sex.

The questions are part of the federal youth survey that includes questions about diet, exercise, smoking, and sexual behavior. Sex related questions were traditionally left off of the survey for Louisiana students, something this bill sponsored by Baton Rouge Rep. Pat Smith was hoping to change.

Smith hoped the sex survey would be a step in lowering Louisiana's teen pregnancy and STD rates; both of which rank among the highest in the country.
