BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — The Bismarck City Commission has offered the job of police chief to West Monroe, La., Police Chief Christopher Elg.

The Bismarck Tribune reports (http://bit.ly/UBz0Ci) that the commission selected Eng Tuesday night over three other finalists. Details of the offer were not disclosed.

The Tribune reports that Elg has 28 years of law enforcement experience and has been the police chief at West Monroe for nine years. He would replace Chief Keith Witt, who retired in April.

Bismarck Deputy Police Chief Dan Donlin has been named as an alternate candidate if Elg does not accept the city's offer by midnight Thursday.
