What if I told you the state of Louisiana might owe you money?

According to the Louisiana Treasury, they have over $700 million in unclaimed property. This money includes everything from old savings and CDs to checking accounts and payroll checks.

The state is hosting an Unclaimed Property Awareness Day Saturday, July 16 at the Lakeside Mall in Metairie. Event is to help make the public aware that they may be owed money.

State Treasurer John Kennedy says that stopping by to put your name in their database could result in a payoff.

If you find something, we'll help you fill out the paperwork to claim it. The average claim is $900 so it's worth your while to come see us. We always find a lot of money at these events.

If you plan on going to the event, bring a valid photo ID and your social security card. If you can't make the event, you can search for the missing money online.
