Louisiana Sends Two Emergency Experts To Hawaii

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — Louisiana is sending a two-person expert team of emergency professionals to Hawaii to help that state deal with two tropical systems threatening the island.

The Governor's Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness said Friday its workers were expected to leave over the weekend to help with operations and recovery on a 14-day mission. The team will work in Hawaii's Emergency Operations Center and help generate situational reports, maintain employee deployment schedules and collect personnel and cost-tracking information.

Tropical Storm Iselle struck Hawaii Thursday night. Hurricane Julio appears to be following a similar course and was expected to hit land over the weekend.

GOHSEP Director Kevin Davis says Louisiana has received similar help through the Emergency Management Assistance Compact, a formal agreement between states to provide help during a disaster.
