During the first few months of the new year in 2014, a Louisiana State Police academy will likely be training new state troopers for the first time in several years.

Legislators were able to find another source of money after Governor Bobby Jindal failed to allocate money for the academy training in the recently passed $25.4 billion state budget.

Because the state has had money troubles for years, training has been on hold for years.  The last cadet class to graduate from a Louisiana State Police Academy was in 2009.

Legislators have decided to use $5 million dollars from a new state debt recovery unit for the Louisiana State Police.
