Louisiana To Reopen Some Waters After Gulf Oil Spill
BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — State wildlife and fisheries regulators say they're reopening certain state inshore and Gulf of Mexico waters to commercial and recreational fishing that have been closed since the 2010 BP Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill.
The LouisianaDepartment of Wildlife and Fisheries said Thursday that the waters will open a half-hour before sunrise on Monday.
The waters to re-open are as follows:
— A portion of the upper Barataria Basin near Bay Jimmy and Bay Batiste, with the exception of a 100-yard shoreline buffer from any shoreline
— All waters within the Birdsfoot Delta of the Mississippi River
— Areas surrounding the Grand Terre Islands and the area seaward between Elmer's Island and Fourchon Beaches. Exceptions include a one-quarter mile area seaward from the Gulf-facing shoreline for both areas.
