It's been hot for weeks and weeks now, but now the Office of State Parks says they will open swimming pools for the Memorial Day weekend.  The schedule will run through the following Monday, May 28th, but then close on Tuesday and Wednesday for required work on the pools.  After maintenance they will resume regular schedules through the summer.

Where can you find a great place to swim on a daily basis?  You have plenty of choices. State parks with swimming pools available for day use are:

  • Chicot in Ville Platte
  • Chemin-A-Haut near Bastrop
  • Lake Bistineau near Doyline
  • Lake D’Arbonne in Farmerville
  • North Toledo Bend in Zwolle
  • St. Bernard in Braithwaite.
  • Bayou Segnette in Westwego has a wave pool

Certified lifeguards are there to watch for any problems with swimmers.  They work during official pool hours only.  There are several Louisiana State Park locations that water playground facilities for the little people in your group. The playgrounds are open daily from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., and available to overnight and day-use visitors.

  • Bogue Chitto in Franklinton
  • Fontainebleau in Mandeville
  • Lake Bruin in St. Joseph
  • Lake Fausse Pointe near St. Martinville
  • Palmetto Island near Abbeville
  • Poverty Point Reservoir in Delhi
  • Tickfaw in Springfield

Would you rather hit the beach this summer instead?  There are plenty of public areas where you can go.  State parks with designated beach swimming areas include:
