Louisiana’s Unemployment Rate Lower Than Nation
On this Labor Day Holiday, the state's unemployment rate is seven-point- nine percent.
L-S-U Economist Doctor Loren Scott says Louisiana's economy is solid, especially compared with the rest of the country, which has an unemployment rate just above nine-percent. Scott says recent discoveries of oil and gas reserves in Louisiana and the declining price of natural gas has spurred a protracted period of growth in the oil, gas and chemical industries across the state. He says the only sector where there has been a steady loss of jobs is state government.
