LAFAYETTE, La. (AP) — Lafayette is offering 15 new low-rent downtown apartments with lots of light to people who can prove they're working in the arts.

The Advertiser reports that rents for the one- and two-bedroom apartments range from $490 to $775 a month, depending on income.

The historic Lafayette Wholesale Grocery Building was renovated into The Studios at LWG, including a first-floor gallery with room for band performances.

Each apartment has a huge window, 16-foot ceiling and fully equipped kitchen.

Digital artist, videographer and musician Jared O'Kelley and his wife, a jewelry maker, were among those who came for an open house Saturday.

O'Kelley says he plays in five bands and works at an ad agency. Camille O'Kelley's day job is as an office assistant at an Opelousas lumberyard.
