LPCC Inmate Dies In Apparent Suicide

25-year-old Kristopher Nelam of the Opelousas area was found dead in his cell on Saturday as deputies with the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center were performing a wellness check. Deputies say preliminary findings indicate Nelam committed suicide. First aid rendered to him was not successful.

Nelams was arrested on May 19, 2016, on a felony charge of Domestic Abuse Battery. The Lafayette Parish Coroner's Office will determine the cause of his death.
