When asked to cover legal fees for the the rest of the 2014-15 school year, the Lafayette Parish School Board agreed to cover legal debts through March.

The board voted to accept a budget revision for $152,000 to pay for legal fees rather than $200,000 that was originally asked for to round out legal fees for the 2014-15 school year.

With paying 76% of the original amount, the board will be approached with another budget revision to have the remainder of the legal fees paid for that are on the table as well as any other fees that may be incurred throough the school system's additional legal proceedings.

District 6 board member Justin Centanni, suggested the change that would cover legal fees through March rather than June in order to have a Counsel Review Committee reformed to research and discuss the priorities of what the Lafayette Parish School System needs to prioritize for legal actions.

Centanni said he found through the school system's last  five years of legal budgets and proceedings, the board had enlisted a Counsel Review Committee through April 2014 when the committee last met. He said School Board President Tommy Angelle chaired the committee, which also included former superintendent Pat Cooper.

At the February 18 regular meeting Angelle will apppoint members to the reinstated committee. District 4 board member Tehmi Chaisson volunteerd his inclusion for the commmittee.
