The 8th-ranked LSU Tigers captured a convincing victory in their SEC Tournament opener on Wednesday, defeating the Vanderbilt Commodores, 11-1, mercy-rule fashion, in Hoover, Alabama.

The win was the fifth-straight for LSU, who has won the postseason SEC Tournament in four of the past six years.

Vanderbilt scored a run in the top half of the first inning, before the Tigers scored 11-unanswered runs, including one in the first, four in the fourth, one in the fifth, two in the sixth, and three in the seventh, as they went on to the 10-run win.

Shortstop Alex Bregman led the way at the plate for LSU, going 3-for-5, with a double, a home run, four runs scored, and five runs batted in.

Right-fielder Mark Laird and Conner Hale also contributed three hits apiece, as the Tigers outhit the Commodores, 15-5.

Jared Poche (9-3) recorded the win for LSU, allowing five hits and one run over seven innings, while Jared Miller (6-2) suffered the loss for Vanderbilt.

With the victory, the Tigers improved to 41-14-1 on the season, while Vanderbilt fell to 41-17.

LSU advances in the winners bracket where they will take on Arkansas on Thursday at 4:30 pm.
