LSU Basketball Embarrassed By Florida

When does baseball season begin? I am sure that's what a lot of the LSU Tiger faithful are wondering out loud as the LSU men's basketball team was on the wrong end of a whipping last night.

You could say it was simply a case of one team, Florida, being red hot and another team, LSU, playing well below their anticipated level. Okay, that's wrong. LSU got their butts kicked by a score of 106-71. It was the worst home loss for the LSU men's basketball program since 1963.

To be fair the Gators were shooting lights out. Florida hit a record 19  3-point shots. LSU had three players scoring in double figures it was just not enough to even stay close to the 25th ranked team from Gainesville. The Tigers leading scorer, Antonio Blakeney, was held to just 4 points.

The loss was LSU's sixth straight and it dropped the team's overall record to 9 wins against 10 losses. In Southeastern Conference play the Tigers are now 1 and 9 and it doesn't get any easier Saturday when LSU travels to the "Garden Spot of the Texas Panhandle" Lubbock to face Texas Tech in a non-conference tilt. That game is part of the Big 12/SEC Challenge this weekend.

The Director of Athletics for LSU, Joe Alleva, was courtside for last night's game. Many sources close to the LSU program are suggesting that head coach Johnny Jones just might not be on that charter to Lubbock. However, that is purely speculation at this time.
