The 8th-ranked LSU Tigers captured a conference win on Saturday afternoon, defeating the 24th-ranked Arkansas Razorbacks, 5-4, in the middle game of a three-game, weekend, SEC series at Alex Box Stadium in Baton Rouge.

Outfielder Mark Laird hit a walk-off single off of Arkansas pitcher Michael Gunn, scoring pinch runner Jake Fraley, as LSU clinched the series, after winning Friday night, 5-3.

The win pushed LSU’s current win streak to seven games, and kept the Tigers to within one-half game of Alabama in the SEC West.

Catcher Chris Chinea and outfielder Andrew Stevenson both collected two hits, while third baseman Christian Ibarra homered, as LSU out-hit Arkansas, as each team manged eight hits apiece.

Joe Broussard (1-0) recorded the win out of the bullpen for the Tigers, while Gunn (1-1) suffered the loss for the Razorbacks.

With the victory, LSU improved to 27-8-1, overall, and 8-5-1 in SEC play, while Arkansas fell to 21-15, overall, and 6-8 in league play.

The Tigers and Razorbacks square off in Game 3 of the series Sunday at 1 pm.
