It was back to the Regionals for LSU Baseball after a little bit of a rocky season that saw the team lose its entire weekend rotation and both middle infielders for stints throughout the year. But they find themselves back here once again to try to get back to the College World Series.

Their path back started Friday as they took on the third seeded San Diego State Aztecs in Corvallis. It was Nick Bush who got the start for the Tigers against Jorge Fernandez for the Aztecs.

LSU would break the ice first in this one as they scored three runs without the benefit of a run scoring hit. The catalysts were Nick Coomes and Beau Jordan who each singled to open the bottom of the 2nd. Jake Slaughter was hit to load the bases, shortstop Hal Hughes grounded out to first for an RBI, and then Brandt Broussard hit an RBI ground ball to short to score Jordan. Finally, Slaughter would come in on a wild pitch by Fernandez. 3-0 Tigers after two innings.

Nick Bush was decent in this game as he pitched five innings and gave back the three run lead when he surrendered three runs on three hits in the 4th inning.

With the game tied at three into the bottom of the sixth inning, it was another three spot put up by the Tigers. Again, it was Coomes who got things started with a single and advanced to second on a wild pitch. After a Beau Jordan ground out Slaughter came through with an RBI single to score Coomes. From there Hughes sacrificed Slaughter to second, Broussard walked, and then it was Zach Watson who singled to score Slaughter. To put the icing on the cake it was another single with two-outs, this time via Antoine Duplantis to increase the LSU lead 6-3.

The Aztecs would tack on an additional run in the eighth but that was just window dressing as the Tigers would defeat San Diego State 6-4 from Corvallis.

They will face the winner of the Oregon State-Northwestern State at 9pm on Saturday.
