LSU Gets Past Vanderbilt, 4-2
The third-ranked LSU Tigers won their 2014 SEC opener on Friday night, defeating the fourth-ranked Vanderbilt Commodores, 4-2, in the opening game of a three-game, weekend, SEC series in Nashville, Tennessee.
Trailing, 1-0, the Tigers scored four runs in the top half of the eighth inning to help propel them to the two-run victory.
With the win, LSU has now won eight-straight, and ten of their last 11 games.
Andrew Stevenson led the way, offensively for the Tigers, who were out-hit by the Commodores, 7-5, going 1-for-4, with a run, and two RBI's.
Zac Person (1-0) picked up the win in relief for LSU, with Joe Broussard recording his fourth save of the year, while Tyler Beede (4-1) suffered the loss for Vanderbilt.
With the win, the Tigers improved to 17-2, overall, and 1-0 in SEC play, while the Commodores fell to 16-3, overall, and 0-1 in league play.
The two teams will play the middle game of the series on Saturday, beginning at 2:15 (cdt).
