LSU plans to have a new live tiger mascot on campus by August, replacing one that died in October following months of treatment for a rare form of cancer.

According to a statement by Dr. David Baker of the LSU School of Veterinary Medicine, the university is still searching for a young, male tiger to replace Mike VI.

Renovations to the campus' tiger habitat are scheduled to begin in April and will be completed in August.

There will be a big change with this tiger mascot. The school says the new tiger will remain in its yard on game days, unlike its predecessors who were taken into Tiger Stadium for football games.

The school also hopes to have its campus habitat accredited as a tiger sanctuary.
