LSU Hurler Named SEC Pitcher Of The Week
The Southeastern Conference honored an LSU pitcher on Monday.
Senior left-hander Jared Poche was named the co-SEC Pitcher of the Week, the second time this season he has won the award.
A native of Lutcher, Poche shares this week's honor, along with Auburn's Keegan Thompson, marking the second time this season that he has won the award.
Poche pitched seven shutout innings Saturday in a 4-0 victory against Baylor to earn the latest honor. The league named him the pitcher of the week after a seven-inning no-hitter against Army in his first start this season.
A 14th round draft choice by the San Diego Padres last year, Poche is off to a fast start this season, with a 3-0 record and an ERA of 0.00. In 22 innings he has only allowed 4 hits and two walks, while recording 15 strikeouts.
Now 30-9 during his career at LSU, Poche’ needs 8 wins to tie Scott Schultz (38 wins, 1992-95) for the most career pitching victories in school LSU history.
LSU is currently 9-3 on the season.
