It was a very rare midweek double header between two powerhouse programs in the world of college baseball last night. The LSU Tigers were in South Bend Indiana last night to take on Notre Dame. The games looked on paper as if there could be some offensive fireworks but it turned out to be more about pitching and defense as the Tigers to both game of the double header.

The score in the first game was LSU 1 and Notre Dame 0, that game took 11 innings to complete. In game two it was more of the same with pitching and defense ruling the night. The Tigers won the nightcap by a score of 3-2. That game took seven innings to complete.

For the Tigers in game one you could tell that Coach Paul Mainieri's plan was to set up his pitching rotations for this weekend at Tennessee. He was probably looking ahead to also get the LSU arms prepared for the Southeastern Conference Baseball tournament which gets underway later this month.

With the two victories LSU improved its record to 33 and 16 overall. The Tigers are currently ranked nationally at number 13 in the NCBWA rankings. The Tigers, after the Tennessee series, will have games next week against Northwestern State on Tuesday and will round out regular season SEC play with a series against Florida May 20th thru the 22nd at Alex Box Stadium.
