LSU Takes On BYU In Season Opener

The 13th-ranked LSU Tigers begin their 2017 regular season schedule on Saturday, taking on the BYU Cougars in a non-conference affair.

The AdvoCare Texas Kickoff, which was originally scheduled to be played at NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas, will now be played at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans, due to Hurricane Harvey devastating the Houston area.

LSU, who defeated Louisville, 29-9, in the Buffalo Wild Wings Florida Citrus Bowl last season, finished the 2016 season at 8-4, overall, and 5-3 in SEC play.

The Tigers are led by head coach Ed Orgeron, who is in his first full season as LSU's head coach, after going 6-2 as interim head coach last season.

Offensively, last season, LSU averaged 28.3 points, 423.1 total yards, 233.0 rushing yards, and 190.1 passing yards per game, while allowing 15.8 points, 314.4 total yards, 117.2 rushing yards, and 197.2 passing yards a contest, defensively.

BYU enters the contest with a 1-0 mark following last week’s 20-6 win over Portland State.

The Cougars, an FBS Independent, went 9-4 a season ago, including a 24-21 win over Wyoming in the Poinsettia Bowl.

BYU averaged 29.5 points per game last season, along with 399.1 total yards, including 197.9 passing yards and 201.2 rushing yards, while allowing 19.5 points, 365.0 total yards, including 252.2 passing yards and 112.8 rushing yards.

LSU goes into the contest having won 14 of its past 15 season-openers and the Tigers are 54-1 in their last 55 non-conference regular season games.

LSU is opening a season in a Louisiana location other than Baton Rouge for the first time since 1916 when the Tigers beat then Southwestern Louisiana Institute in Lafayette.

This will be the first-ever meeting between the two schools.

Kickoff time is set for 8:30 pm.
