NEW ORLEANS (AP) — A person familiar with the decision says LSU women's basketball coach Van Chancellor is stepping down.

The school has announced an afternoon news conference Wednesday to discuss the future of the women's basketball program.

The person spoke to The Associated Press on the condition of anonymity because the school has yet to announce the move.

LSU (19-13, 9-8 SEC) lost to Kentucky in the Southeastern Conference tournament quarterfinals and never won more than two conference games in a row this season. The Lady Tigers did not make the NCAA tournament for the first time in 13 seasons.

In four seasons at LSU, Hall of Fame coach Chancellor led the team to three NCAA tournament appearances and one NCAA Final Four.
